Configure Screen:

Set Default QuickCrypto Start Up Load Options:

These options configure the way QuickCrypto initially loads and presents itself (all of these options are remembered once set):

Launch the Password Safe as soon as QuickCrypto is loaded

If you mostly use the Password Safe function, enabling this option (a tick mark appears in the box when it is clicked), automatically loads the Password Safe (once the correct Password Safe password is entered). The other QuickCrypto features are still available from the ‘QuickCrypto button and menus.

Launch the Crypto Explorer once QuickCrypto is loaded

If you mostly use the CryptoExplorer functionality (the encrypting and decrypting of files and folders) enabling this option (a tick mark appears in the box when it is clicked), automatically loads the CryptoExplorer on program start-up. The other QuickCrypto features are available from the Explorer menus.

Suppress QuickCrypto 'Scrolling Splash Screen'

Enabling this option (a tick mark appears in the box when it is clicked), automatically stops the initial scrolling splash screen from ever displaying on initial load of QuickCrypto (this screen indicates the version of QuickCrypto, its status and licence registration details).

The Default Password is Required to View Hidden Files

Enabling this option (a tick mark appears in the box when it is clicked), automatically requires that the default password is needed when attempting to "Show Hidden Files" or "List All Hidden Files" using the Crypto Explorer. Note that to disable (un-tick) this option once enabled (ticked) also requires the default password to be entered.

Encrypted Password Database:

Export a Back Up

QuickCrypto allows the storage of Passwords and Pass Phrases in a highly secure encrypted database.

Given this database’s importance (many passwords for many purposes are held in encrypted form) - if anything happens to this database, potentially many critical files will remain encrypted forever (as the Pass Phrases will be unrecoverable from the encrypted database) – therefore back-ups of the database should be taken.

Clicking this button stores a verified back-up in the default location of "\My Documents\Password-Safe-Backups\". To change this default location, use the 'Browse' button to select a different folder. To reset to the default location, press the 'Reset' Button.

Checking the "BackUp On Exit" box stores a copy of the encrypted database in the chosen location upon every use of the Password Safe.

Note that it is prudent to make back-ups on a different system and/or on removable media (that can be used for recovery in case of a hardware system failure, e.g. a disc crash).

Import a Back Up

Allows the easy restore of the encrypted Password Safe database from a previously taken back-up completed with Export a Back Up feature.

Choose the required back-up, then click "Restore" to apply and import it. If the back-up you require is not in the default location, use the "Browse" button to select the folder it resides in.

UnDo Last Import

Clicking this button restores from the last known database prior to any import of a back-up.  This restore may not include any recent updates to the Password Safe database and should be used as a 'last resort' option.

Set Initial Default Folder

Clicking the 'Browse' button allows the selection of any folder accessible to the system. This folder (displayed in the associated text window) will be initially used as the default folder for all file operations.

This feature is useful if you regularly encrypt or decrypt files from a common folder directory other than the default "My Documents" folder.

Clicking the 'Reset' button removes the default folder setting – the initial folder loaded will be the last used current folder.

Audit Log

Keep an audit log of QuickCrypto events

Enabling this option (a tick mark appears in the box when it is clicked), automatically creates an audit log (if one does not already exist) and tells QuickCrypto to record a summary audit entry for every major QuickCrypto event (e.g. encryption of a file or change of password etc)

De selecting this option (tick mark removed) suspends all log entries. Note it does not remove the existing log, it just prevents any more entries from being added.

Clicking the “View” button loads the log into the system’s default text application for viewing.

Clicking the “Shred” button permanently destroys any existing log. Note a new log will be created if the 'keep an audit log of QuickCrypto events' option is enabled (tick mark in box)

Text Encryption Options

Turn off ACC Text Encryption (allow non English characters)

Enabling this option (a tick mark appears in the box when it is clicked), turns off ACC within the text encryption features. ACC is an extra cipher that is normally blended with the ultra secure Blowfish method for text encryption operations.

However ACC does not work with character sets such as á or é etc. and needs to be disabled for these ‘symbols’. Even without ACC, Blowfish remains an ultra secure text encryption method.

Another reason to turn off ACC (i.e. enable this option) is to increase text encryption and decryption speed.

Create Block of Cipher Text

Enabling this option (a tick mark appears in the box when it is clicked), makes QuickCrypto insert a line-break every 60 characters in the generated cipher text during text encryption. This essentially creates a block of cipher text, rather than one long stream of cipher-text after encryption.

Password Generator Options

Password Length

The length of generated passwords can be adjusted by altering the number in this field, within a range of 8 to 55.  If using the 'Password Safe' to record passwords it is recommended that this figure is left at 32 or more.

Use Symbols & Numbers

This option can be set to ‘Yes’ or ‘No’. Setting to ‘Yes’ introduces other symbols (other than upper and lower case letters and numbers) into the make-up of the password. Some systems do NOT like symbols within passwords. QuickCrypto does - it adds ‘strength’ to passwords (but of course they are difficult to remember).

Windows Explorer Right-Click Options

Right-Click Encrypt

Enabling this option (a tick mark appears in the box when it is clicked/enabled) allows an 'Encrypt File' option to appear when a file is right-clicked in Windows Explorer.

Right-Click Shred

Enabling this option (a tick mark appears in the box when it is clicked/enabled) allows a 'Shred File' option to appear when a file is right-clicked in Windows Explorer.

Right-Click Hide

Enabling this option (a tick mark appears in the box when it is clicked/enabled) allows a 'Hide File' option to appear when a file is right-clicked in Windows Explorer.

Right-Click Folder

Enabling this option (a tick mark appears in the box when it is clicked/enabled) allows a 'Encrypt', 'Decrypt', 'Hide' and 'Shred' options to appear when a folder is right-clicked in Windows Explorer.

Apply & Cancel

Clicking the 'Apply' button actions and saves the options set.

Clicking 'Cancel' button closes this option screen without saving or actioning any changes made to the options.
