Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
(1) What are the system requirements?
QuickCrypto is compatible with 32 bit Microsoft® Windows™ NT, 2000, XP and Vista™.
Image Steganography (Hide Text in Pictures) System Requirements
- Operating System - Windows XP or Vista
- Display - 32 bit color depth required
- Image Types that can be opened - .jpg or .bmp formats
- Saved Hidden Text Images - .bmp format only
- Extra drive space required for any images saved with secret hidden text
File Steganography (Hide Files in Folders) System Requirements
- Hard Drive configured for NTFS (Vista only uses NTFS)
- Files cannot be hidden on USB (FAT) Flash Drives (though files CAN be encrypted)
The faster your system processor and the more memory it has, the faster the encryption and decryption will be.
QuickCrypto file encryption requires the same amount of free hard disk space as the size of the file that is being encrypted.
(2) What is the difference between Home and Professional Editions?
The only difference between the two versions (apart from cost) is that the Professional Edition will encrypt and decrypt files much more quickly.
For example an 8Mb file will be encrypted in 1 second with the Professional Edition. The same 8Mb file will take 20 seconds using the Home Edition.
So an average full CD quantity of data (650Mb) will take about 1 minute 20 seconds to encrypt with the Professional version, but 27 minutes with the Home Edition.
These times will improve the faster the system processor and the more memory that is available.
(3) How do I install updates?
Normally no action is required to update QuickCrypto to a newer version other than re-installing over the existing version of the application.
However if you are updating to QuickCrypto Professional 3.1G/3.1H or Home 2.1G/2.1H editions from earlier versions (e.g. 3.1f or 2.1f) you must follow the following procedure:
(A) If you use the Password Safe, export a back-up by using the Menu>Options>Further Options> "Export a Backup" button. Save the back-up where you will remember its location and not in the QuickCrypto Program Files folder.
(B) Uninstall existing QuickCrypto 3.1 (Administrator User privileges are required). If Using XP - Control Panel>Add Remove Programs. Select 'QuickCrypto 3.1' and click 'Remove'. Using Vista - Control Panel>Uninstall a Program. Select 'QuickCrypto 3.1' and click 'Uninstall'.
(C) Install latest QuickCrypto 3.1G (Administrator User privileges are required). Double-click the new QC31Setup.exe (after extracting it from the ZIP file where appropriate) and follow the instructions.
(D) Import the Password Safe (if you have followed (1)). Menu>Options>Further Options> "Import a Backup" button. Select the back-up you took in step (1)
(E) Reset your 'default password'. Click Menu>Options>Change Default Pass Phrase ... and follow the instructions
(F) Check your Crypto Preferences and Further Options are as required. Click Menu>Options>Main Crypto Preferences ... and review/change as appropriate. Click Menu>Options>Further Options ... and review/change as appropriate
NOTE - Registered Users should NOT have to re-register after updates.
(4) Will QuickCrypto run from a USB pen as a 'portable app'?

(6) How do I encrypt and decrypt my files?
A quick overview is found in the file and data encryption page. Please refer to the comprehensive help provided within the QuickCrypto product for more help.
(7) How do I install or remove Quickcrypto from my system?
QuickCrypto is a small application, it doesn't take long to download and is very quick to install or remove.
Installation guidelines (please note - you must have 'administrator' privileges) :
(1) Once downloaded "double-click" on QC31SETUP.ZIP (QuickCrypto Professional) or QC21SETUP.ZIP (QuickCrypto Home) and click to extract the QC31setup.exe or QC21Setup.exe file
(2) Double click on the setup.exe and this will guide you though the installation process allowing you to change defaults for where you would like the program to reside and where the shortcuts are placed within your "Start" menu.
The defaults will be fine if in any doubt.
You can use QuickCrypto as soon as installation is complete. To continue using it after 15 days have expired you need to register after purchasing a license
Removal Guidelines: Use Add/Remove Programs within the Control Panel.
(8) How can it be so secure if it's so inexpensive?
Please Click Here to read about the Secure Encryption . The 'head' of QuickCrypto is rock hard science, but it's 'heart and soul' is pure simplicity. It uses excellent encryption mechanisms 'under the cover', but there are not huge amounts of over blown or gimmicky features (and therefore purchase cost is reduced). The QuickCrypto team sees this as a 'win-win' situation for most purposes.
(9) I don't want to buy QuickCrypto but I want to decrypt an encrypted message someone has sent me?
In that case, please Click Here to decrypt your message text.. First check that you haven't received a 'self decrypting' message. If you have (the email will have an attachment with a .exe extension), then you do not need to download QuickCrypto. Virus check the attachment (as you should do for all files of this type however sure you are of the sender) then double-click the file. Once you have entered the correct Pass Phrase, the message will be decrypted and revealed.
(10) Are my payments secure? What about my credit card details?
The QuickCrypto site uses a secure payment site from Paypal. No credit card numbers or details are available to this or any other site.
(11) How do I register QuickCrypto and why must I?
To allow QuickCrypto to be installed and used before purchase (try before you buy - the best way ...) you need to register the product after buying it to cancel the automatic expiry of the product licence.
As soon as your payment is confirmed and you have sent by email the registration details, you will be emailed an unlock code (within 24 hours, but usually sooner).
This removes this "splash screen" and lets you use QuickCrypto without any restrictions after the 15 day limit has expired:

This costs nothing more once you have paid. You send the registration number of your QuickCrypto installation (as highlighted by the red box in the screen shot above) along with your name or company name (the name provided will be displayed as the registered owner of the software) to mail@quickcrypto.com and you will receive by return an email with your unlock code.
Simply type this (or copy and paste is easier - as the unlock code must be entered exactly as received) and the name you gave into the registration screen boxes (as illustrated by red box below) and you are done!
No more 'splash screen', nothing else to do but use the product to encrypt and decrypt files and email texts.

(12) Do I get free updates?
Yes, for a period of 12 months from purchase, you can check for and download updates. You can choose to download and install these when you wish, with nothing further to pay.
(13) I can't hide files - I get a message saying "drive not supported"?
Files can only be hidden on NTFS drive volumes. Some systems use the FAT system for some or all drive volumes. USB Memory Stick removable Flash Drives use the FAT system so you cannot use QuickCrypto to hide files with these.
However, Files can be encrypted on either type and on Flash Drives. Self Decrypting text messages can also be created on any type of drive volume.
(14) On what basis am I buying QuickCrypto?
(c) Quick Crypto, a division of http://www.cybernescence.com/
