File & Data Encryption.

Encrypting any type of file ...

is an easy 4 stage process with QuickCrypto:

(1)   Press 'Encrypt File' button,

(2)   Select the File to be Encrypted,

(3)   Enter a 'Pass Phrase' to lock the File (The File is then Encrypted),

(4)   Choose a File Name for the Encrypted File (Process Complete).

All types of file can be encrypted, a document (pdf, doc, txt etc.), an image (bmp, jpg, gif etc.), an application (exe, dll etc.) - any type of windows file!

Encrypted files are unreadable or usable by anyone until they are decrypted again - documents are meaningless (they won't load into editors either), images can't be viewed, applications won't execute.

As in the case for encrypted text messages, decryption can only happen if the 'key' (the Pass Phrase) is known.

Once decrypted, the files or text will revert to their original state and can be used as if they had not been encrypted at all.

Why Use File Encryption?

We all use our home PCs to store information that we would not want others to see, e.g. do you manage your personal finances on a spreadsheet, keep your passwords or pin numbers on a file somewhere (or sometimes even worse written down on paper)?

Perhaps where a PC is shared in a household, there is some type of information you wouldn't want any other user to ever be able to access without your permission?

Say your PC or laptop gets stolen, this would be bad enough in itself, without the thought that the villain is also now reading and using your personal details for identity theft or direct fraud of your accounts.

Do you keep an electronic diary you don't want others to ever be able to read - then use Quick Crypto to encrypt your diary files.

If you have or work within a company and you're not encrypting your files, especially those you transfer by CD or the internet (any that have a chance to enter the public domain), then you're risking prosecution and extreme negative customer publicity ...

US Bureau of Industry And Security - AES

One of QuickCrypto's Encryption options allows the use of the same Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) Algorithm
as used by the U.S. Government.

How do I know my files are safely and securely encrypted?

The encryption algorithms used by QuickCrypto are advanced, current and security industry proved (with QuickCrypto you have a choice from Blowfish, Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) or the Triple Data Encryption Standard (T-DES)).

These encryption techniques have been open to all security experts to examine for many years (peer review). QuickCrypto also includes proprietary techniques embedded within Blowfish for text encryption.  With all of these approaches you achieve very secure encryption of files.

However, a long involved pass phrase (extended password) for encryption is crucial for ultimate security.

Do you you need this? Well it's available with QuickCrypto if you do. But remember it's only hard-core geeks, gurus and intelligence agencies that have the interest and motivation to crack encryption.

Most people will have trouble guessing any Pass Phrase with letters and numbers. So as you're not James Bond (well we can pretend a bit I guess?) or Lara Croft, make sure you pick a Pass Phrase you can remember (and that your friends and colleagues will).

If you forget the relevant Password or Pass Phrase, you won't be able to decrypt your files. Ever!
